ACTION

Glycerin primarily acts osmotically by retaining water in the large intestine, thereby increasing the water content in the stool and facilitating bowel movements. Additionally, it has a mild peristaltic effect.

CHARACTERISTICS / USP

Fast-acting: Evacuation is usually achieved within 5 minutes (though it may take up to 30 minutes)
No interactions with other medications
Can be administered as a supplement to chronic constipation treatments
Contains plant-derived glycerin

DOSAGE & USAGE

1 adult microenema. Allow at least 3 minutes without bowel movement for full effect. If no bowel movement occurs within 30 minutes, a second microenema may be administered within the next hour.

Using a higher dosage may cause intestinal irritation, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
